What is FSC®?
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting responsible forest management on a global scale.
The FSC certification system is a robust, reliable and rigorous system based on the voluntary acceptance of standards for the processing and transformation of forest-based materials evaluated by independent third parties, with the objective of promoting:
• Environmentally appropriate forest management: to ensure that the way in which timber and non-timber products are harvested contributes to maintaining biodiversity and the ecological and natural processes of forests.
• Socially beneficial forest management: to help local people and society as a whole enjoy the long-term benefits of forests, while providing strong incentives for communities and managers to become involved in management plans.
• Economically viable forest management means that forest management plans are profitable, without compromising forest resources, biodiversity and ecosystems.
