LAS MIGAS
“Las Migas, food for the empowerment of flamenco women” . Fernando Neira, El País
After receiving a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Flamenco Music Album in 2022, and a MIN Award for Best Flamenco Album for their latest work, 'LIBRES' , Las Migas continue with renewed energy. Unstoppable, they present a new album that arises from an emotional process and the desire to share it immediately.
The Migas are alive, united, awake; they are tireless workers, original and curious .
Without needing to prove anything else, sincere and serene, always eager to celebrate and continue fighting for a safe space for women in the art world, a battle in which there is still much to do. Although they feel they have achieved a lot, they recognize that it is not only theirs, but that of all the female artists who fight.
“We are Rumberas, we are Flamencas, we are Free, we are Warriors and we are everything we want to be .” Marta Robles, Las Migas
“We have a dream and it is that the world's stages are filled with women.” Alicia Grillo, Las Migas
For Las Migas, Being a rumbera is a way of life . It means being a musician or anything else you want, but living it, enjoying it and feeling it in every fiber of your being. It means embracing each day with the awareness that life is the present, it is today, whether in moments of sadness or joy, in winter or spring.
For them, rumba is a feminine song, not only because they are women, but because they recognize that the world is full of rumberas: women who give their all, who fight, express themselves and deserve their own space.
Rumba is an international genre , without an owner, that transcends styles and borders, whether Cuban, flamenco or Catalan. For this reason, Las Migas strip themselves of labels in this work to show themselves as they are: pure, authentic, unique. Although they do not have a physical place to call home, their roots extend to a thousand places.
Their new album, 'Rumberas' (2024) is an overwhelming, different and spontaneous album, full of feelings and rhythm. It includes songs of various styles and emotions, all united by the message of overcoming sadness with effort to achieve joy. For Las Migas, beauty is a form of healing, and rhythm and strength are tools to move forward. After all, as they say, the world without music would be nothing at all.
