Carlos Pinana (Spain)

A flamenco guitarist of modern times, who combines tradition with the new interpretative demands of this noble art. Flamenco guitarist Carlos Piñana has performed in practically all of Spain, as well as in many cities such as Paris, London, Berlin, Oxford and Stockholm, among others. It is worth highlighting his participation in the International Music Festival 'Franͧois Miterrand' in Mauritius. ?Family with flamenco tradition Born in Cartagena, Murcia, Carlos is the youngest of a family with an important flamenco tradition, along with his brothers, the guitarist Pepe Piñana and the singer Curro Piñana. A tradition that began with his grandfather, Antonio Piñana, singer and winner of the first Cante de las Minas competition in the sixties, and continued with the renowned guitarist Antonio Piñana, Carlos's father. Training and recognitions ?Since he was a child, Carlos Piñana has absorbed the learning of flamenco, a discipline that he combined with the study of classical guitar at the Cartagena Conservatory of Music between 1988 and 1998. Since he began his professional activity with the flamenco guitar in 1995, Carlos has stood out as a firm promise of the flamenco guitar. Among the different recognitions, it is worth mentioning the First Prize and Bordón Minero at the Festival de las Minas Minas in 1996, the National Guitar Award "Ramón Montoyá" in Córdoba in 1998, and the First Prize "Sabicas" at the National Festival of Young Flamencos... Discography His first album, entitled "El cuidado de la conciencia", was published in 1996, an album that, as its name indicates, transmits the tradition of flamenco. "Palosanto", "Mundos Flamencos", "Manos Libres" and "De la raíz al alma" are other titles that complete his discographic work. In addition, he has collaborated on two albums with his brother Curro Piñana, specifically on "De lo humano y lo divino" and on Cal librí. He has also collaborated on the compilations "Con duende" (along with Camarón, Menese or Carmen Linares) and "Strictly World 99", published by the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals. Collaboration with Alhambra Guitars Carlos Piñana plays an Alhambra flamenco guitar, model Mengual y Margarit, in this case with Indian Rosewood back and sides, an instrument that has been specially adapted with a special design on the headstock. Precisely the design of the headstock corresponds to the same as the model 10 Fp Piñana, a development that together with the model 5 Fp Piñana, have been made in collaboration with this guitarist. These are guitars in which the main characteristics are the use of Indian Rosewood for the sides and back and cedar for the top, and in the case of the 10 Fp Piñana the finish is matte, in the case of the 5 Fp Piñana the finish is open pore. Narciso Yepes Festival Carlos Piñana is the artistic director of the Narciso Yepes International Guitar Festival, a festival that took place in March 2017 during its first edition, where Alhambra Guitars has collaborated in its realization.
