
ADIEN FAZMAIL (INDONESIA)
Adien Fazmail is an Indonesian guitarist and teacher, known for his work with the bands Albattar, Echotones and most recently Agam Hamzah Acoustic Connection (Duo). He started playing guitar at the age of 14. Brian May of Queen and Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple are two of his main musical influences, which also include flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía, Miles Davis and Pantera of Heavy Metal, among many others. Adien studied Musicology at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts, under Indonesian guitar legends Donny Suhendra and Agam Hamzah, and delved into both acoustic and electric guitar, in the fields of pop, rock and jazz. From a young age he has played regularly on talk shows on TVRI and has become a session musician for various artists, including J Rocks, Astrid, Afgan and Anda Perdana. He has performed with Donny Suhendra and Agam Hamzah at Bandung Jazz Break Revival (2009), Agam Hamzah Acoustic Connection at JAK JAZZ (2009) and at SuddenJazz Jakarta (2011). In 2012, Adien became an ambassador for local Indonesian guitar brand “Stephallen”. Fervently interested in flamenco since 2010, he has been learning, performing and participating in workshops with Angela Lopez since 2014."¯ Adien has since focused his career on flamenco guitar, studying in Spain with Carlos Gomez. Adien is a founding member of Project Flamenco Southeast Asia, a collective initiated by Spanish Dance Singapore with a group of artists from Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam. Led by Tania Goh (producer) and Angela Lopez Lara (singer, pianist and dancer), this collective encourages collaboration and exploration in their respective countries.
